Sara Murray Accused of Misappropriating Millions from Big Technologies
The dismissed founder of a publicly traded company implicated in a stock market scandal is now facing additional allegations of misconduct. These accusations suggest she unlawfully transferred millions of pounds from the business to offshore entities purportedly for her own benefit or that of her family.
Big Technologies has announced the need to disclose more information regarding its legal proceedings against its former CEO, Sara Murray, aiming to counter the allegations and criticisms she has levied.
The firm specializes in electronic location tracking services for law enforcement, probation services, and the social care sector, operating under the Buddi brand.
Murray and Big’s board have been engaged in an ongoing conflict since her dismissal in March, which stemmed from claims of undisclosed connections to offshore entities that gained over £124 million when the company went public in 2021. The Takeover Panel is currently investigating these claims.
Recently, Murray took action against the board as the company prepares for its annual meeting next week, labeling it as “unfit for purpose” and urging shareholders to reject proposed resolutions.
In a recent regulatory statement, Big disclosed that Murray had consistently refused to provide answers regarding the offshore companies.
The company also revealed its legal case against her, which resulted in Murray agreeing not to sell or transfer up to £320 million in assets. Moreover, Big alleged that, besides the purported ties to the offshore entities that profited during the company’s flotation, she also utilized separate companies to “improperly divert or extract” millions of pounds “from the company and Buddi for herself or affiliates.”
“This behavior appears to persist as a pattern throughout her career in management,” Big claimed.
In her recent statements, Murray insisted that she does not “own or control any of the companies mentioned.” She has refrained from addressing Big’s assertion that the companies are connected to a family trust benefiting her and her daughter, Rowena.
Big Technologies alleged it discovered a “deleted spreadsheet” on Murray’s work laptop that listed, among her various personal assets, the disputed companies and their assets as if they constituted her personal wealth.
The company asserted that she had “failed to provide any substantial explanation” concerning these allegations. Additionally, it is claimed that Murray made false representations in court regarding the offshore companies.
In its statement, Big Technologies emphasized that it is acting in the best interest of its shareholders by continuing to pursue its claims against Sara Murray.
Murray has been approached for comment regarding these developments. She has previously asserted that the board’s decision to terminate her employment led to an unnecessary and substantial decline in the company’s share price, questioning the fairness of the process.
